The Houston Polo Club could not have asked for a more beautiful Sunday to showcase an exciting and fast paced 12 goal game between BTA and Tonkawa.

As the game kicked off, both teams traded goals as they got into the rhythm, ending the first chukker tied 2 to 2. During the second chukker, BTA’s offensive wheels started turning as they scored 2 unanswered goals to take a 4 to 2 lead ending the chukker. Tonkawa’s Colombian team captain, Pipe Marquez, brought his team within 1 goal of the BTA lead at the beginning of the third chukker with an outstanding goal from the field.  But BTA’s teammates Mason Wroe and Krueger, responded with 3 unanswered goals to end the first half leading 7 to 3.

The last day of April could not have been a better representation of how beautiful Texas is in the spring. During halftime, spectators were happy to get out onto the field to stretch their legs, stomp divots and enjoy complimentary champagne. After the teams had a chance to talk about their second half strategy, it was time to begin the last three chukkers of the game.

The Krueger/Wroe “teamwork makes the dream work” strategy was showcased once more in the fourth chukker as BTA scored three goals versus Tonkawa’s one, stretching BTA’s lead to 10 to 4 at the end of the chukker.  Tonkawa’s Marquez had had enough, and Tonkawa was able to get some traction on the scoreboard in the last two chukkers.  In the fifth chukker, Marquez came out strong, on his gray mare Diva, working together with team mates Herndon Radcliff from Point Clear, AL and newcomer Jack Kiely, from Australia, to get every member on their team a goal from the field. Tonkawa displayed great teamwork and horsemanship in the remaining chukkers of the game, but BTA held on to their lead to take home the Sunday win, 13 to 9.
