DOUGLAS ELLIMAN CUP

Opening Sunday was full of great polo and great vibes as Douglas Elliman helped kick off the Fall 2025 Season with double header games from the 6 Goal League!

Douglas Elliman’s Cindy Case bowled the first ball in the BCI/Roxstars vs Plank Companies/Sullivan Group match and they were off! BCI/Roxstars started the game with a 1 goal lead due to team handicap differences, and proceeded to maintain their one goal lead throughout the game. Plank Companies/Sullivan Group tied the game at the beginning of the last chukker with a penalty four conversion from Joe Wayne Barry, but BCI/Roxstars found their offensive rhythm as they scored four unanswered goals to claim the first win of the day with the score of 10 to 6.

As the teams shook hands on a game well played, the field was opened up to spectators for the iconic halftime divot stomp.  The crowd enjoyed complimentary champagne as they stomped divots on Farish Field and had the opportunity to check out the newest Land Rovers on display and the Shoppa John Deere Tractor.  After the divots were stomped, it was time to start the second feature game of the day between Hicks & Johnson LLC/Traveller’s Rest and Propaganda/W-S.

The team in green, Hicks & Johnson LLC/Traveller’s Rest jumped out to a two goal lead after the first chukker. Propaganda/W-S’s Miguel Torres tied the game momentarily in the second chukker, but Hicks & Johnson LLC/Traveller’s Rest’s Nicolai Galindo broke the tie to keep his team’s lead. As the third chukker played out, Galindo scored three goals to Propaganda/W-S’s two goals, holding onto a two goal lead going into the fourth chukker. Propaganda/W-S’s Miguel Torres struck first in the last regulation chukker with a penalty two conversion, but was answered with Hicks & Johnson LLC/Traveller’s Rest’s Robert Orthwein earning an automatic goal (penalty 1) to now lead 8 to 6 mid chukker. Torres didn’t give up, as he converted another penalty two to bring his team within one goal. In the last 30 seconds, through a melee of players, Torres reached out and scored the tying neck shot goal to send the game into overtime!  Hicks & Johnson LLC/Traveller’s Rest won the first throw in of the sudden death overtime chukker, but narrowly missed the run to goal. Propaganda/W-S had a knockin, but their plan was thwarted by Galindo as he stole the ball and scored the golden goal, earning the overtime win with the score of 9 to 8.
