SUB-ZERO CUP

Houston’s spring weather was in good form on Sunday as Sub-Zero presented the Sub-Zero Cup between teams 3L Energy Solutions/Sentinel Trust and BTA/Pata Life.

3L Energy Solutions/Sentinel Trust’s Nick Dunbar (white jersey) hits a neck shot on Bella with Jesse Weaver and Plumero going for the hook

3L Energy Solutions/Sentinel Trust took immediate control of the game as teammates Marcos Villanueva and Joe Bob Lequerica scored two unanswered goals to win the chukker 2.5 to 0. BTA/Pata Life edged their way back onto the scoreboard with penalty conversions from Sylvie Kampshoff and Bryan Middleton. Villanueva ended the second chukker with another goal to keep his team’s lead of 3.5 to 2. 3L Energy Solutions/Sentinel Trust showed off their teamwork as Lequerica threaded the needle to gain another goal for his team. BTA/Pata Life’s Jesse Weaver kept his team in the game by scoring his first goal to end the first half trailing 3 to 4.5.
As the teams took their half time break, spectators were invited onto Farish Field to partake in the Halftime Divot stomp! Everyone enjoyed the weather, visiting with friends and enjoying complimentary champagne sponsored by Douglas Elliman. The new Mossy Ineos Grenadier, the Bill Fick Ford dually truck, and the Shoppa John Deere tractor were on display for all to see. Soon the chukker horn blew and  everyone returned to their seats awaiting the remainder of the Sub-Zero Cup!

3L Energy Solutions/Sentinel Trust’s Marcos Villanueva carries the ball on Sunday’s Best Playing Pony, Ramona

BTA/Pata Life woke up in the fourth chukker as Weaver converted an open goal penalty followed by a coast to coast run by Bryan Middleton earning their team’s first lead of the game. Lequerica regained 3L Energy Solutions/Sentinel Trust’s lead in the middle of the fifth chukker, but Middleton found the goal once more to end the chukker narrowly leading 6 to 5.5. With only a half goal separating the teams, the crowd was on the end of their seats, as the clock started to count down in the sixth and final chukker. Middleton scored his fourth goal of the day giving BTA/Pata Life a slight sigh of relief. But Marcos Villanueva was not ready to give up, as he used his horse power and scored to trail by half a goal once more.  With little time remaining, the umpire threw the ball in and the players were fighting for possession. 3L Energy Solutions/Sentinel Trust won the throwin and pounded the ball towards their goal as the 30 second warning horn blew. BTA/Pata Life players ran back on defense, they connected on a back shot to Middleton, he took possession of the ball and waited for the last horn to blow, and BTA/Pata Life slipped away with the Sub-Zero Cup win of 7 to 6.5.
