The finals of the USPA General S. Brown tournament started the afternoon as Piney Woods Polo team was rematched against Propaganda/W-S, who had narrowly taken the win in the last 30 seconds of the first game. In the first two chukkers of the rematch, it was a story of penalty shots, as Propaganda/W-S’s Miguel Torres struck first with a penalty 3. Piney Woods Polo answered as Jack Kiely stepped up with 4 penalty shot conversions and 2 goals from the field. Propaganda/W-S’s Quinn Evans and Torres kept their team in the game scoring 3 goals in the second chukker to end the half trailing 4.5 to 6. The third chukker was scoreless on both sides despite Propaganda/W-S’s 3 shot attempts on goal. Kiely surged into action in the fourth chukker, scoring 3 goals as Torres answered with another penalty shot for his team. Kiely kept his offensive push going, with his tenth goal of the day, but as the clock ticked down, Propaganda/W-S’s Chris Williams put the last goal of the match between the posts with the final score of Piney Woods Polo (10) over Propaganda/W-S (6.5).

As the players shook hands on a game well played, the spectators were invited onto Farish Field for the “between game divot stomp!” People had the chance to enjoy complimentary champagne, thanks to Douglas Elliman, and see the new Bill Fick Ford truck along with the Mossy Ineos Grenadiers, and the Shoppa John Deere gators and tractor. Fun was had by all, and soon the second game’s players were ready to start the game as the crowd returned to their seats, eager to see what was coming next! |

For the second Sunday Lonestar Cup game, Island Time Polo/Plank Companies faced Roxstars/Sullivan Group in the Bluebonnet Cup finals. Island Time Polo/Plank Companies caught their opponents sleeping in the first chukker as they jumped to a quick 2 to .5 lead. Roxstars/Sullivan Group woke up in the second chukker scoring 3 goals from teammates Nick Cifuni and Joanie Jackson. After a momentary lead change, Island Time Polo/Plank Companies’ Tommy Alberdi added 2 more goals to the scoreboard to retake the lead 4 to 3.5 at the end of the second chukker. Alberdi remained determined in the third chukker, scoring 4 goals in a row, but Roxstars/Sullivan Group’s Shane Rice snuck his first goal in of the day to keep his team in the game, trailing 4.5 to 8. Rice didn’t stop in the fourth chukker and scored 2 more goals, but Island Time Polo/Plank Companies held on to their lead and walked away with a 8 to 6.5 win. |
