Everyone from the spectators to the players enjoyed a beautiful afternoon of polo on Sunday at the International Cup hosted by the US Polo ASSN!

BTA started the game with a half goal (.5) on the scoresheet due to total handicap differences between the teams. BTA’s Joe Bob Lequerica and Steve Krueger were quick to score three goals in the first chukker, but found themselves in foul trouble, as Plank Companies/San Saba’s Santi Zubiaurre and Joe Wayne Barry converted two penalty shots to end the chukker. BTA scored 2 goals to Zubiaurre’s 1 goal in the second chukker to then lead 5.5 to 3 going into the third chukker. BTA extended their lead to 7.5 to 3, but were penalized with a penalty 1 (automatic goal) in San Saba’s favor to end the chukker 7.5 to 4

As the teams walked off the field for halftime, the Land Rover from Land Rover Houston, the Bill Fick Ford F250, and the Shoppa John Deere Tractor entered the field for the halftime divot stomp!

As the players took their half time break, spectators stretched their legs on Farish Field, participating in the traditional Half Time Divot Stomp. Complementary champagne was enjoyed and the crowd had the opportunity to see the new Land Rovers from Land Rover Houston, the new Bill Fick Ford Truck and the Shoppa John Deere green tractor and gator! Soon it was time for the players to retake the field and resume the game as the spectators returned to their seats.

Plank Companies/San Saba came out firing in the second half, but had trouble finding the goal despite many runs and passes between teammates. BTA’s Krueger and Lequerica found two more goals in the fourth chukker, setting BTA up with a 9.5 to 4 lead going into the fifth and final chukker. Plank Companies/San Saba’s comeback started with another penalty one awarded in the first two minutes. Barry and Zubiaurre took advantage of the change in momentum scoring a goal apiece, but the time expired in the chukker and BTA clutched the win with the final score of 9.5 to 7.
